Plan Backward: Academic is a scholarly project planning system designed to help scholars intentionally plan rigorous scholarly projects from conception through dissemination. It is not a writing application or productivity tool. It is professional infrastructure built specifically for scholars.
Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you choose, your name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
Profile information: You may optionally provide your institution, department, academic role, and time zone. This information is private to your account.
Project planning data: We store the project titles, types, due dates, methods, theoretical frameworks, research track selections, planning timelines, best-practices check-in records, and deadline information you enter. This data is private to your account.
We do not collect: manuscript text, drafts, notes, uploaded documents, unpublished research content, or any intellectual property. Plan Backward is a planning tool, not a content repository.
Your information is used solely to provide the Plan Backward planning service to you. We use it to:
We do not use your project content to train AI models. We do not use your data for advertising.
Your account and project data are stored securely in Base44's cloud infrastructure. Data is associated with your authenticated account and is not accessible to other users.
Authentication: Base44 provides our authentication infrastructure, including email/password login and Google Sign-In. We do not build or maintain a custom password database.
Google Sign-In: If you use Google Sign-In, Google's privacy policy governs Google's handling of your information.
We do not sell your data to any third party. We do not share your project content with any third party.
When you export a calendar file (.ics), the file is generated on your device and downloaded directly to your computer. Calendar exports contain milestone titles and date ranges. They do not contain passwords, authentication tokens, private notes, or manuscript content. You control where you use or share your calendar file.
Download your data: You can download all your Plan Backward data at any time from Account Settings → Privacy & Data.
Delete a project: You can delete any individual project from Account Settings → Privacy & Data. Deletion removes all associated planning records.
Delete your account: You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from Account Settings → Privacy & Data. You can also request deletion from our external deletion page if you no longer have access to the application.
Correction: You can update your profile information at any time from Account Settings.
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your project data, profile information, and planning records are deleted. We do not retain personal project content after account deletion.
